Novobisium carolinense - No Common Name


Taxonomy

Comments: Described by Banks (1895) as Obisium carolinensis. The genus also includes N. ingratum, recorded from Alabama, and N. tenue, recorded from Tennessee and previously considered a subspecies of N. carolinense.

Comments: ID the family by each leg with six segments, dentate inner margin on moveable finger of chelicera, and pleural membranes granular. ID the genus by spinneret on moveable finger of chelicera is a rounded knob, four eyes, palpal chela with 4 trichobothria on moveable finger and 8 on fixed finger (Microbisium has 3 and 7, respectively)
Total Length: Body length 2.5 - 4 mm
Distribution in North Carolina
Comments: Appalachian mountain region from Pennsylvania to Alabama.
