Description: A grayish-brown species with a somewhat bold color pattern. The crown is gray to white with a dark brown anterior marginal line. There is an orange to dark brown transverse band in front of the eyes, resembling { without the curved ends. The face is typically brownish, sometimes darker in some individuals. The pronotum is anteriorly a grayish color, while the posterior part is dark brown; note the lack of a well defined pale cruciate mark, which many other Scaphoideus species have. The scutellum is somewhat bicolored, with an orange-brown anterior half and a yellowish-white posterior part; there is some black marks on the sides of the scutellum. The wings are grayish-brown, with dark brown, orange, and white sections; the wing venation is dark brown. Additionally, the wing cells around the scutellum are typically white, forming a 'white border' or necklace. Females are usually more boldly patterned than males, with males slightly darker overall (orange not as bright). Males can be quite dark on the underside. The female pregenital sternite (sternite #7) is yellowish with a slight brownish medial patch on the posterior margin; the posterior margins of this sternite are relatively straight. Adult males are 6.2-6.8 mm long, while females are 7.0-7.4 mm. (Barnett 1976) For more images of this species, see: BG.
