Native of Europe; in northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada, scattered south to NC, NM, CA.

HabitatMontane mixed woods and openings, disturbed areas.
PhenologyJune-September.
IdentificationBroadleaf Helleborine grows to 2 feet tall (sometimes more), with a few to several ovate leaves (sometimes narrower). The inflorescence is a raceme with green bracts that are usually longer than the flowers. The sepals are green or suffused with red-purple; the petals vary from greenish to yellowish to purplish.
