DistributionWeakley (2020) maps this species in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain of NC, but there are no specimens at SERNEC that are so-named. His 2024 flora does not include it in NC, and NatureServe only shows it as occurring south to PA and KY.

"Circumboreal, in North America from NL (Newfoundland) west to AK, south to c. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993; Rhoads & Block 2007), WV, KY, n. AL (FNA), TX, NM, AZ, and CA." (Weakley 2024a).
AbundanceApparently does not occur in NC, though listed by the NC NHP as W3 on its Watch List.

Taxonomic CommentsSplit out from L. minor; perhaps a re-examination of specimens will reveal some turionifera.

The range maps for this and other duckweeds (Lemna spp.) are likely to be very incomplete, owing to recent changes in nomenclature; not to mention being in a group of plants often overlooked or not often collected by biologists because of their tiny size and aquatic/floating habits.
