DistributionDistribution in the Mountains is somewhat unsettled, as the range of var. erwiniae also is the Mountains; some sightings, if not specimens, could be misidentified.
AbundanceThis taxon, as is var. erwiniae, is considered as Significantly Rare by the NCNHP. They give the State Rank of S1 for this variety, which might be correct, if just the eastern counties are the entirety of the range in the state. If the scattering of mountain records shown on the map below are correctly identified to var. obliqua, then the editors suggest a State Rank of S2, which is also the State Rank for var. erwiniae.
