DistributionA specimen has been seen from New Hanover County, collected by F.G. Poole in April 1936; it is without any other locality data. A second specimen was collected in 1993 "near the beach" in Brunswick County by M. Williams (specimen at ILLS). These occurrences are doubtfully native; more likely that plants were brought up from Florida.

Ranges from southeastern GA and AZ southward into South America.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatTypically grows on telephone/electricity wires, tree branches. The Brunswick County plants grew on a Live Oak.
Phenology
IdentificationUnlike Spanish-moss, this species forms +- compact plants (often round or ball-like), with long-exsert floral stalks.
