DistributionKnown only from a collection made by Mark Basinger in October 2020 in Wilson County: "at forest margin to ag fields next to 6044 Wiggins Mill Rd at Lamms Crossroads...no fruit observed on vine, it has been growing here for 3 years." The specimens are at NCU.

Native along coast, islands, and near-coastal from southern SC to FL, TX, AR and Mex.; south to northern S.A. In N.A. also inland to MO, KS, AZ, but probably not native there.
AbundanceVery rare in NC; a single population.
HabitatEcotone between ag field and forest. Elsewhere, native plants occur on dunes, interdunes, shell middens, hammocks, and bluffs.
Phenology
IdentificationA woody or semi-woody vine that clambers over low to moderate height vegetation. Leaves are alternate, succulent (thick-textured), glabrous, and deeply 3-lobed, the margins +- sinuous and irregularly toothed. Flowers grow in cymes on stalks opposite terminal leaves.
Taxonomic CommentsA synonym is Cissus incisa.
