| Distribution | Weakley (2022) includes this very confusing taxon as a full species in his NC Flora. It ranges throughout the middle and higher elevations of the Mountains, according to him -- it being essentially a split of O. tetragona. SERNEC is very incomplete, with just three specimens. Undoubtedly, most specimens of this taxon still lie submerged within O. tetragona.
