DistributionThis taxon is no longer valid, as Semple and others elevated it to full species in 2021.

ME to southern Ont. and MO, south to NC. Certainly ought to be in SC.
AbundanceThe NCNHP is not following Weakley (2022), and continues to have this taxon on its Watch List (W7) and with a State Rank of S2?. The editors have given the State Rank as SYN (Synonym), as this variety is now the full arguta species.

Taxonomic CommentsA note about Solidago arguta. It has traditionally been a difficult complex of entities, and there is even today much disagreement as to which to recognize, and at which rank. We follow Weakley (2018), but caution that not all specimens will key cleanly. Apparently, var. bootii does not occur in NC, but from SC south and west.
