Sciurus nigerEastern Fox Squirrel2013-06-07Chris Kelly2Roadkilled specimens were collected and sent to NCWRC Headquarters for a graduate student research project at NCSU. Tissue samples were reserved for a WCU graduate research project. Landscape consisted of pasture, woods (mostly around riparian zone), some commercial properties. One squirrel was a female. Sex of other could not be determined due to damage. - US 421 in the westbound lanes, approx 2 miles west of Deep Gap and 5+ miles east of Boone. Two fox squirrels, dead on road, less than 1 mile apart at: 36.24146, -81.54801 and 36.22522, -81.61391. Nearest creek is Meadows Creek which feeds into South Fork of the New River03_Roadkill
