Adult Markings: The ground color is a pale yellow-brown, with only sparse dull orange dusting, if any (Forbes, 1954). The lines are rust-colored and run straight, or slightly concave, across the wing; the postmedian can show a costal angulation. The antemedian and postmedian lines are preceded by clear yellow. The orbicular and reniform spots are usually faint but show a plain orange outline. Hindwings are yellow. Pyreffera hesperidago is a darker orange and has thicker, somewhat waved antemedian and postmedian lines. Other members of this genus have a postmedian line that is indistinct, waved, or punctiform (see key in Forbes, 1954).
