3 Frosted Elfin Moore; C 2006-04-20 ASH, M. McCloy 4 WEWO Same date I found them 2 years ago and in the same place on the Boyd Tract. Female ovipositing on Lupine. Evidently the ovipositor is sharp enough to insert the egg into the unopened flower bud. This explains why I couldn't find the eggs two years ago when I watched egg laying from a distance with binoculars. With the 200 macro lens I could see the brownish ovipositor extend out of the abdomen and insert in the cracks or into the buds.
