The two rows of upper teeth can be seen in this picture. Flanking them are the sheathed fangs which are folded back to the top of the mouth. In addition, the two openings that appear to be nostrils are the heat sensing pits that give pitvipers their name. This animal was found dead on the road. It is extremely important to note that even a dead venomous snake can still be dangerous. The snake was removed from the road and pictures were taken for educational purposes.
