Tamias striatusEastern Chipmunk2007-05-30Parker Backstrom and Holly Weston1While working in the yard my wife and I saw an Eastern Chipmunk, a species with which I am abundantly familiar from growing up in MN, scurry through our yard, which was adjacent to extensive but fragmented woodlands. We recognized at the time the relative uncommonness of the sighting (we recorded it in a journal we keep which was referenced to ascertain the exact date) -- it was and remains the only time I've seen the species in the piedmont. We saw what is presumed to be the same individual moving around in and near our yard on June 3, 2007. No sightings occurred subsequently. - Pittsboro05_Sight
