Habitats and Life History
Habitats: We have records from a wide variety of habitats, including Northern Hardwood and Spruce-Fir Forests, high elevation grasslands, mountain bogs and alluvial forests, and residential areas in the Piedmont.
Larval Host Plants: Larval host plants include members of the Myricaceae (Covell, 1984). Sweet-gale (Myrica gale) is specifically mentioned by BugGuide (accessed 2020-10-29). In North Carolina, however, M. gale is extremely rare and bayberries and wax myrtles (Morella spp.) occur mainly in the Coastal Plain where this moth appears to be scarce or absent.
