Species Status:
This species was described by Brou in 2004, with the Holotype from Natchitocbes Parish, Louisiana. Brou listed North Carolina among the states where specimens had been confirmed.

Adult Markings:
This is a darkly colored
Baileya
, lacking white or pale gray in the basal area and having only a slight pale shading in the median area (Brou, 2004). The reniform is a blackish-gray dot that is somewhat darker than the ground color. The apical area lack a dark bar and apical dark streaks found in
dormitans
.
Bailya levitans
is closer in general appearance but has a paler median area and darker shading before the subterminal line. The reniform in
levitans
consists of a black dot surrounded by a dark circle.
Forewing Length:
The average forewing length is 35.1 mm (Brou, 2004).
Adult ID Requirements:
Identifiable from good quality photos of unworn specimens.

Distribution:
We have few records for this species, but it seems to be restricted to the Sandhills region.
