Species Description:
Eye spots present. Colorless cuticle, distinctly tuberculate on dorsal surface. Tubercles increase in size posteriorly, about 1.6 µm in diameter above legs I and 4 µm between legs III and IV. Tubercles close together, irregular in shape, rounded to polygonal, more evident caudally. Tubercles cover cuticle continuously, not in bands, and extend onto legs, distinct on legs IV. Mouth opening subterminal. Buccal tube narrow, 1.2 µm wide by 26 µm long, including buccal ring; curved dorsally. Distance from end of buccal tube to stylet supports 12 µm. Pharynx spherical, 24 µm in diameter. Apophyses well-developed, 0.8 µm. Two slightly rounded, granular macroplacoids; first 1.6 µm long, second 1.2 µm. Microplacoid and septulum absent. Hypsibius-type claws, 2-1-2-1 sequence; claws on legs IV larger than claws on legs I-III, no lunules at base of claws. Collected at station 6N (1,654 m) on Roan Mountain, in lichens on beech tree (Fagus grandifolia), 8 September 1988.
