Taxonomic Comments: This is a new species discovered in Bartels' Smokies inventory, described in Bartels et al. 2008.
Species Notes: Freshwater. Only reported from GSMNP.

Species Description: Body length 298.0 µm. Body colour unknown, eyes present. Cuticle smooth. Mouth anteroventral. Bucco-pharyngeal apparatus of the Doryphoribius type: peribuccal lamellae and papulae absent, ventral lamina present. Oral cavity armature absent or not visible in PCM/DIC. Buccal tube 30.2 µm long and 3.5 µm [11.6 pt] (external) wide; 2.8 µm [9.3 pt] (internal) wide. Ventral lamina 18.6 µm [61.6 pt] long. At the end of the buccal tube, triangular pharyngeal apophyses present. Stylet supports inserted on the buccal tube at 22.0µm [72.8 pt]. Pharyngeal bulb spherical (31.3 µm x 31.3 µm ) with three granular macroplacoids [length configuration 1 (shortest)—2 (longer)—3 (longest)]. Microplacoid and septulum absent. First macroplacoid, 2.3µm [7.6 pt]; second 2.5 µm [8.3 pt]; and third 3.0 µm [9.9 pt] long. Macroplacoid row 10.1 µm [33.4 pt] long. Claws of the Isohypsibius type, similar in size and shape. Primary branches of claws with well-developed accessory points. Lunules and other cuticular thickenings on legs absent. Claw lengths: leg I: external: basal claw 7.1µm [23.5 pt], primary branch 12.2 µm [40.4 pt], secondary branch 10.6 µm [35.1 pt]; leg IV: posterior (internal): basal claw 7.8 µm [25.8 pt], primary branch 12.3 µm [40.7 pt], secondary branch 10.6 µm [35.1 pt]. Other claws not measurable. Eggs unknown.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Freshwater streams in periphyton in NC samples, in TN found in wet limestone cave sediments in Cades Cove.
Abundance: Uncommon. This species makes up 0.89% of aquatic specimens collected in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Bartels' inventory.
Diet: Unknown, possibly omnivorous.
Reproduction: Probably smooth eggs laid in shed exuvium.
