Taxonomy
Class:
Eutardigrada
Order:
Parachela
Family:
Macrobiotidae
Checklist Number:
1760.0
Synonym:
Macrobiotus hufelandi group sp. 1, Macrobiotus group sp. 2, Macrobiotus cf. echinogenitus, Macrobiotus hufelandi sensu lato (see Bartels 2021), Macrobiotus schultzei
Taxonomic Comments:
Macrobiotus hufelandi was once thought to be cosmopolitan, but it is now known to be a very large group of difficult to identify species. Kaczmarek & Michalczyk 2017 provides valuable morphological guidance for this group.
Species Notes:
Terrestrial. Macrobiotus hufelandi proper was first described in Germany, many early records need reexamination.

The hufelandi group have two macroplacoids and a microplacoid. In Macrobiotus hufelandi proper the dorsal cuticle is smooth without gibbosities or granulations, oral cavity armature of hufelandi type with three separate dorsal teeth in the third band, egg shell reticulated. Definitive ID by L. Kaczmarek.
Body Length:
Unknown.
