Taxonomic Comments: Transferred from Echiniscus by Gasiorek et al. 2022.
Species Notes: Terrestrial. So far reported only from SC and NC from campuses of USC and UNC, thereby displaying clear preference for Atlantic Coast Conference.

Species Description: An Echiniscus of the bigranulatus group, dorsal plates with pores and true granulation, no appendages other than head appendages and lateral cirri A, weak development of dentate collars on the fourth pair of legs, and no basal spurs on any claws. -Meyer et al. 2017
Body Length: 145-204 microns
Key Characters: Body orange-red, no eyes visible in original description, but present in NC material. No cuticular appendages other than cirri A, no basal spurs on legs. See another red heterotardigrade, Claxtonia maucci to compare.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Found on lichen and mosses on trees in urban settings.
Abundance: unknown
Diet: Herbivore feeding on algae and perhaps moss/lichen.
Reproduction: Unornamented eggs laid in shed exuvium. No males reported.
Observation Methods: PC, DIC and epifluorescence microscopy.
