Species Status: This species has recently been resurrected from synonymy with P. ruficollis (Bosquet et al., 2017)

Comments: The key characters given for P. ruficollis by Lingafelter (2007) still apply but all specimens with pale stripes on the elytra are now considered to belong to (Androw, 2017, in BugGuide, accessed 2022-09-08). The characters that distinguish this species from P. nitidicollis are structural and visible only by inspecting the ventral side of the specimen (Androw, 2017).
