Identification

Description: A distinctively colored species, yellowish overall except for a red to orange apex of the clavus; this mark appears as a reddish triangle on otherwise yellow wings. The extent and shape of the red can vary, appearing less like a triangle in less-bold individuals. The vertex is unicolorous with a pale midline; in bold individuals, there are two yellowish longitudinal lines on the pronotum leading to the yellowish scutellum. The thoracic venter is entirely pale, and the abdomen is pale dorsally. Adults are 3.3 mm long. (3I).

Distribution: Rare in eastern United States, known only from TN, NC, and PA.

Abundance: Uncommon to rare with a few records from the mountains; probably more abundant in the right habitat.
