Description: A brownish species with two forms. The typical form is brownish overall with markings on the abdomen. The frons is completely unmarked; here are images of a male and female brachypterous specimen. Note that the male has a darker abdomen than the female. The other form is 'rotundata' which has bolder markings on the abdomen and thorax. These markings are a combination of red, brown, and black. The antennal segments for both forms are pale.
Distribution in North Carolina

Abundance: Uncommon, recorded across the state but primarily from the Piedmont; likely more abundant in the right habitat.

Habitats: Grassy, brushy areas
Plant Associates: Schizachyrium scoparium (Little bluestem)
Behavior: Can be attracted at night with a light.
Comment: Form 'rotundata' used to be Delphacodes rotundata but was synonymized in recent years with M. parvulus. (UDEL)
