Behavior:
Comment: There are several collection records from 2002 and 2003 identified as S. placidus, the only other member of this genus in North America. S. placidus is a much more rare, and more northern species that has previously been reported as far south as New Jersey; it is unclear if these specimens were correctly identified. S. mixtus can be differentiated from S. placidus in having the ocelli (light-sensing organs on the top of the head) closer to the eyes than the apex of the head. (Hamilton 1975)
