Description: A brownish, densely reticulated species with a produced, pointed crown that is sharply angled towards the face. The female pregenital sternite has a scooped-out posterior margin, with long and pointed lateral lobes and a slight median notch. The male subgenital plates are triangular. Adult males are 4.2-4.9 mm long, females are 4.8-5.8 mm. (Hamilton 1975)

Abundance: A couple records from the Piedmont and upper Coastal Plain; perhaps under collected and therefore more abundant in the right habitat.

Behavior: Can be attracted at night with a light.
Comment: NOTE: Paraphlepsius is a challenging genus to identify, with a majority of the species requiring underside views of the pregenital sternite or male subgenital plates to allow for an identification; even then, an ID may not be possible. It is important to obtain clear, detailed images of the underside; length measurements can help as well.
