Description: A dark brownish species with a noticeably pointed and produced crown that is sharply angled to the face. The male subgenital plates are elongate and triangular. The female pregenital sternite has the median lobes noticeably shorter than the lateral lobes on the posterior margin; there is a prominent excavation between the lobes, with a small median notch and a discernible indentation down the middle. Adult males are 5.9-6.4 mm long, females are 6.3-7.0 mm. (Hamilton 1975) Nymphs are dark brownish overall and show the characteristic pointed head that the adults have.

Comment: NOTE: Paraphlepsius is a challenging genus to identify, with a majority of the species requiring underside views of the pregenital sternite or male subgenital plates to allow for an identification; even then, an ID may not be possible. It is important to obtain clear, detailed images of the underside; length measurements can help as well.
