description

A typically dark brownish or blackish species, though some individuals can be paler brown. Females are usually brownish, males blackish. The vertex is broadly rounded, more than half as long in the middle as the width across the eyes. The pronotal disc has prominent transverse markings. The female pregenital sternite has the lateral angles of the posterior margin broadly rounded, with a shallow, round excavation on either side of a median produced rounded lobe, which is notched in the middle and produced past the length of the lateral lobes. Females are 9 mm long, males are 7 mm (DeLong 1942

distribution

Southern United States. This species is known from Texas, but recent records from the southeastern U.S. (and potentially in California) seem to be N. dualis, potentially indicative of this species expanding its distribution eastwards (the records in California could be a result of an accidental introduction).

Recorded from a few counties in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain.

Records on here for Negosiana dualis are tentative for now, as this species is not officially known from the southeastern United States; therefore, this page is acting as an umbrella for records of specimens that appear to be dualis. Hopefully a specimen can be obtained to confirm the occurrence and identity of this species.
