A dark species, with reddish-brown to blackish wings (depending on the lighting, individual, and how the wings are being held) with no crossbands but instead large white spots: three prominent white spots along the costal margin (together with a blackish mark) and two spade-shaped spots (with smaller spots on either wing) along the commissural margins. The scutellum (specifically the lateral triangles and apex), pronotum and vertex are concolorous with the wings. The face is pale, and the thoracic venter has a dark mesosternum with the rest pale. Adults are 2.8- 3.0 mm long. (Dmitriev & Dietrich, 2007)

A fairly distinctive species, prosata could perhaps be confused with some individuals of Erythroneura elegans, but note differences in wing pattern: prosata lacks the large white patch on the wings next to the scutellum, and the wing pattern is fuller in prosata. Dark individuals of Erythroneura reflecta are also similar, but prosata has full, solid 'collar' at the base of the wings, something dark reflecta lack. |
