synonym
description A greenish yellow species, with greenish eyes and yellowish subhyaline forewings (sometimes with a tinge of brown). The crown is roundedly produced, with the median length slightly longer than the length next to the eye. The female pregenital sternite has the posterior margin concavely excavated to about one=half of the length of the segment, with the median spatulate processes laterally expanded distally; the lateral angles are rounded. Adult males are 5.9 to 6.6 mm long, while females are 6.5 to 7.0 mm, ranging to at least 7.8 mm based on records on this site. (Cwikla, 1988)
distribution Known from Maryland and North Carolina (Cwikla, 1988)
abundance Uncommon, primarily found in the Coastal Plain but also in the Piedmont; likely more abundant near marshes.

comments NOTE: Chlorotettix is a notriously difficult genus to identify to species visually; a majority of the species are various shade of yellow and green, and they can only be reliably distinguished by looking at genital features. Therefore, it is very important for all Chlorotettix species other than necopinus and tergatus to obtain a picture of the underside. This species is most similar to C. limosus, which has not been recorded in the state yet.

This species is not officially recognized, though it is known in the hopper community. It was described in Paul Cwikla's PhD thesis revision of Chlorotettix in 1988, the most comprehensive treatment of the genus to date. However, some of the changes to the genus that Cwikla made in his thesis, such as describing new species like leersius, were never officially published in the scientific literature. Therefore, those changes and new species have not been officially recognized and incorporated into Cicadellid taxonomy.
