DistributionA single collection is known from Avery County in the Mountains: meadow 1.5 miles E of Spear on US 19E, 1958, Ahles and Duke 47420 (NCU). Apparently this is the southernmost record in the U.S.

Native of Eurasia. In N.A., scattered from N.S. to Ont. south to NC and IA.
AbundanceVery rare, but likely in other counties.
Habitatmeadow.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting July-Sept.
IdentificationVery similar to A. pubescens, but flowers are alternate (vs. opposite or subopposite) and fruiting hypanthium is small (max 4.6 mm vs. at least 7 mm).
