Native of Mediterranean Europe; in N.A. essentially throughout the U.S. and southern Canada.

PhenologyFlowering and fruiting June-October.
IdentificationYellow Star-thistle is distinct in its smallish, ovoid to globular heads that sport stiff sharp spines. The corollas are yellow. It is freely branched from the base, but reaches only about 1-2 feet tall, looking a bit "bushy".
