| Identification | Japanese Flowering-quince grows to 3 feet tall, the recent branches red-purple. Leaves are obovate or spatulate, 1.5-2 inches long, the margins crenate-serrate. There is a kidney-shaped stipule at the axil of some leaves. The flowers are 1-1.5 inches diameter, dark red. C. speciosa has serrate leaf margins and smooth branches (vs. scabrous branches in this species). | |
