DistributionThroughout the state, except rare on the Outer Banks. Gaps will be filled in with additional collecting.

Native to Europe; in N.A. widespread.
AbundanceCommon to very common throughout, perhaps only uncommon in the Sandhills proper and rare on the Outer Banks.
HabitatFields, meadows, fallow fields, pastures, orchards, roadsides, yards, disturbed soils.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting May-October.
IdentificationOrchard Grass is probably familiar to most folks, with its stems 2-4 feet tall (perhaps more) and branched inflorescence with many dense, oval spikelets. The lower branches spread widely, the upper are generally appressed. The spikelets are rather compressed laterally.
