Native of the central third of the U.S. and Canada; adventive east of the Appalachians.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatMowed lawn.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting May-August.
IdentificationRough False Pennyroyal has stems 4-7 inches tall, with narrow paired leaves, small lavender-blue flowers in the axils, and a strong pungent minty odor. The native H. pulegioides has elliptical leaves.
