Distribution | Only known from 2 specimens outside of cultivation: Battle Park on the UNC campus in Orange County, and Grants Creek at Highway 601 in Rowan County. Other specimens at SERNEC are from cultivated plants.

Abundance | Very rare outside of cultivation, although widely planted as an ornamental. | |

Phenology | Flowering May-July; fruiting August-October. | |
Identification | This is a small tree with compound leaves. Each leaflet is divided into 3-5 subleaflets or lobes. The flowers are bright yellow on open panicles. The fruits are ovate, sharp pointed at the tip, each with 3 papery sections. | |
