DistributionMacon County: S end of Wild Cat Cliff, 1 mile from old trees at Powell Place, collected in 1946 by H.R. Totten. Records from Buncombe, Jackson, and Watauga counties are from planted trees.

Native of Eurasia; in N.A. established locally in some Northeastern states and NC.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatBase of montane cliff.
Phenology
IdentificationAmong NC conifers, Larix is unique in having very short needles in tufts of 10 or more, which drop each fall. The native L. laricina grows naturally as far south as WV.
