DistributionCollections of non-cultivated plants are from Alleghany, Ashe, Cabarrus, and Dare counties. First collected in NC on Roanoke Island in 1959 by P.J. Crutchfield.

Native of China, in N.A. in southernmost Canada south to NC, AL, and LA.

HabitatRoadsides, roadside thickets, escape to yard.
PhenologyJuly-August.
IdentificationTiger Lily is a familiar garden/cultivated plant, not readily escaping. It has plain orange corollas with bold dark spots. Blackish bulblets are produced in leaf axils, unlike all our other Lilium. It has an abundance of alternate stem leaves; our native species tend to have whorled leaves, except for L. catesbaei.
