DistributionScattered from Polk County to Currituck and Carteret counties.

Native of Eurasia, in N.A. throughout the U.S. and most of Canada.
AbundanceApparently rare, and recent collections are very few. This is the flax of commerce.
HabitatRoadsides, railroads, campus weed, trash heap, field, prairie restoration site (Wake Co.).
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting April-September.
IdentificationCommon Flax is our only blue-flowered flax, each up to 3/4-inch across. Plants may reach 2-3 feet tall, and the leaves diverge from the stem and are up to 1.5 inches long.
Taxonomic CommentsWebsite editors have received much help in species boundaries and in identification from Rogers (1963, 1984).
