Native of China; scattered records in N.A.
Abundance | Very rare. The Moore County population had 10 stems.
Habitat | Yard weed, old field near road, roadside near old shed.
Phenology | Flowering and fruiting September-October.
Identification | This is a very handsome plant, with several large red flowers in an umbel atop a hollow stem. Each flower is cut into 6 narrow segments, with long red stamens projecting well beyond.
Taxonomic Comments | Weakley (2020) treats two varieties: var. radiata rare in all 3 provinces; and var. pumila rare in the Piedmont. Website editors have seen specimens only from 3 counties and none were identified to variety and none from the Mountains or Coastal Plain. Thus we lump them both for now.
