| Identification | White Mulberry recalls our native Red Mulberry (M. rubra), but mature leaves are much smaller (half the surface area or less) and are much more likely to have a lobe or "thumb." Blades are glabrate beneath vs. pubescent or puberulent beneath in Red Mulberry; they are also quite shiny above, as opposed to rather dull and not glossy above in that native species. Fruits are variable in color when mature, from whitish to blackish (vs. deep red-purple to blackish in Red Mulberry). | |
