| Habitat | "Field", "waste place", and "waif growing in seedbed abandoned for season" (Jackson Co.). There ought to be a monument on the Duke University campus, or at least in Durham, to honor the importance of the plant to the founding and establishment of the university and to the local economy! | |
| Phenology | Flowering and fruiting June-October. | |
| Identification | Cultivated Tobacco is familiar to North Carolinians, at least until the early 2000s when most tobacco farmers switched to other crops after a series of regulations -- for health concerns -- finally reduced financial incentive. | |
