DistributionOf 4 collections from Jackson County at SERNEC, only 1 is accompanied by an image with label data; it was stated to be a waif from cultivation. BONAP maps it only in Jackson County. Other specimens from Forsyth, Mecklenburg, and Orange counties are of cultivated plants.

Native of Eurasia; in N.A. -- N.B. to Ont. and MN, south to GA, MO, and KS.
AbundanceVery rare to absent as an escaped plant in NC.
HabitatIf legitimately present as an alien species, it most likely would be at old homesites.
PhenologyFlowers and fruits May-July.
IdentificationThis species is a shrub that is quite similar to the native P. inodorus. However, this exotic species has the large white flowers (4 petals) in a raceme of 5-9 flowers, rather than a cyme/cymule of just 1-3 flowers in P. inodorus.
