| Distribution | Cultivated throughout the state, but rarely escaping. So far as is known, locally established in Duplin, Mecklenburg, Orange, and Wake counties. Herb Amyx reports that "They are scattered around some of the North Raleigh Parks, but are especially heavy at Durant Nature Preserve, where there are (or were) several near the community center that are the height of a medium sized tree. Those scattered around the woodlands struggle to reach 1 or 2 feet high but persist for long periods of time."

| Identification | Plants develop into large, broad bushes or small, dense-canopy trees. Leaves are about 6 inches long, narrowly elliptic, pointed, margins with small serrations. New growth always tinged coppery red. Flowers are produced in dense umbel-like clusters of tiny white corollas. | |
| Taxonomic Comments | Our plants may be the cultivar "Curly Fantasy", a hybrid P. glabra x serratifolia, according to Herb Amyx.
