Native of Eurasia; in N.A. scattered across much of the U.S. and Canada.
AbundanceUncommon, except rare in the Sandhills.
HabitatDisturbed woods, roadside woodland margins, woods on campus, roadsides.
PhenologyFowering April-May; fruiting June-July.
IdentificationSour Cherry is similar to Sweet Cherry (P. avium), differing mainly in the coarser and blunter leaf teeth, and the leaf undersides are glabrous at maturity rather than pubescent in that species.
