DistributionSo far, known only from Mitchell County (wooded streambank), Macon County (no label data but tentatively accepted), and Buncombe County (seedlings adventive in garden).

Native of Eurasia; in N.A. scattered in the West, in the East MA to southern Ont. and IA, south to NC, AL, and OK.
AbundanceVery rare.

PhenologyFlowering April-May; fruiting June-July.
IdentificationMahaleb Cherry leaves are relatively broad compared to length, giving them a broadly ovate or sometimes rotund look. Margins are crenate with blunt teeth; the leaves also have a short drip-tip. Leaf surfaces are glabrate beneath, glabrous above. The fruits are small and black.
