Distribution | Mountains only -- collected as an escape only from Alleghany and Ashe counties. A third collection is from Buncombe County, but lacks label data, so could have been cultivated.

Phenology | Flowering April-June; fruiting June-August. | |
Identification | Red Currant is our only currant with bright red berries. The flowers occur in a raceme, the petals pinkish to creamy. The stems lack spines at the nodes. | |
