DistributionSpecimens are known from Buncombe and Cleveland counties; BONAP maps it in Jackson and Madison counties.

Native of Europe and western Asia; in N.A. scattered through most of the U.S. and southern Canada.
AbundanceRare to very rare.
HabitatNo habitats are given: "near Asheville" (Buncombe Co.), "Kings Mountain" (Cleveland Co.).
PhenologyFlowering May-June; fruiting September-October.
IdentificationDog Rose has 5 or 7 leaflets per leaf, the stipule is attached to the leafstem for more than half the length of the stipule, and the flowers are 1.5-2 inches across -- pink, rose, or white. Note the deeply lobed (pinnatifid) sepals, which separates Dog Rose from most of our others. It is told from rubiginosa and tomentosa by its generally uniform size prickles (vs. various sizes) and leaflets glabrous beneath (vs. hairy).
