DistributionScattered in the Mountains. SERNEC lists only Caldwell County for NC, whereas RAB (1968) cites only Jackson County. BONAP maps it in 3 other montane counties, and iNaturalist has a photo from Watauga County in a non-planted setting. Specimens from Chatham and Columbus counties are misidentified. It would be good to find the sources of the non-SERNEC records.

Native of Europe; in N.A. in southern Canada and the northern U.S. south to SC, MO, CO, CA.

HabitatNarrow roadside powerline, "waste ground" (RAB), other disturbed sites.
PhenologyFlowering May-June.
IdentificationCutleaf Blackberry is unique in its shallowly to deeply cut and toothed leaflets. There are 3 or 5 leaflets per leaf. Plants form shrubs rather than creeping or clambering.
