DistributionRecorded from the Mountains, and the upper and lower Piedmont. A specimen from Beaufort County is Erigeron quercifolius. First collected in 1932 in Chapel Hill, Orange County, growing "wild" in a yard.

Native of Europe; in N.A. essentially throughout.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatField by railroad, lawn weed, weed in nursery.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting late April-July.
IdentificationPurple Salsify is unmistakable with its red-purple, all ray flowers. The extremely long and narrow bracts in the genus extend far beyond the rays, a very obvious feature of these 3 species.
