DistributionFNA and BONAP map it for NC, but without location. Weakley (2018) maps it in the Coastal Plain. There are no specimens at SERNEC. RAB (1968) cites only a single record from a railroad yard in Charleston County, SC.

Native of the Neotropics, and apparently also north to the U.S. Southwest. Adventive east of the Mississippi River (the boundary between native and non-native is obscure).
AbundanceVery rare. A specimen voucher is highly desirable!
HabitatNo data for NC; various disturbed habitats.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting July-November.
IdentificationThis species is an annual -- glabrous, succulent, prostrate, and diffusely branched. The leaves are sub-opposite, stalked, and elliptical, one of the pair larger than the other (a very odd and rarely seen character). The flowers are usually single in the axils, the sepals purplish, petals absent.
